Saeed bin Suroor is excited about seeing his star Benbatl make his return from a year on the sidelines at the Shadwell Joel Stakes at Newmarket on Friday.
The five-year-old won three times at Group 1 level – functioning a brilliant winner of the Dubai Turf in Meydan out in late March prior to landing the Grosser Dallmayr Preis in October.
Since pursuing home Winx when the wonder-mare maintained an historic fourth success after in exactly the identical month, but is reported to be in good shape for his Group Two return over the Rowley Mile benbatl has not yet been seen in action.
„It’s his first start of the year. But he’s in good condition, and we’re looking forward to watching him run,“ said Newmarket coach bin Suroor.
„His work has been good, and he constantly shows his class in the mornings. His very last bit of work on the Watered Gallop on Racecourse aspect was great, and now we are satisfied.
„A mile is a great trip for his first rush, and we will see how we go. I am hoping to get a fantastic run, although I believe this particular race will be needed by him.
„I wish to observe how he works and he comes out of this race prior to making any plans, however, options are available for him at Group One level.“
Benbatl confronts a far from simple task on his comeback, even with the John Gosden-trained King Of Comedy setting a high standard on this year’s shape.
After winning at Sandown in the spring, Kingman’s son appeared every inch colt at the building – which that he was just vaguely refused by Circus Maximus when a minute in the St James’s Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot in June.
He was last seen completing a close-up fourth in the Juddmonte International at York, and also relations are currently hoping he could get the most out of having his landscapes lowered a shade.
Hugo Lascelles, racing manager to King Of Comedy’s owner-breeder Lady Bamford, stated:“We hope it is a fantastic prospect for him. He’s working with him moving to the race, and John is pleased.
„He set up a decent performance in York, along with the rigid mile in Newmarket should suit him well.
„We are hopeful, but there are one or two good horses up against himso it will not be a walkover, that is for sure.
„He hasn’t won a Group race yet, so we’ll take it one step at a time, however when all goes well on Friday we hope he will then return to Ascot for the QEII.“
The UAE Jewel is already a winner – earlier after up on Guineas in the Proper Newmarket Stakes weekend, making a hugely impressive debut from the Wood Ditton.
Roger Varian’s fee tests the water Group Two level on his return to activity.
Varian stated:“It looks like a strong renewal of this Joel Stakes, however the time of the race fits well for UAE Jewel, and it should be a great starting point to receive his career back on course.
„I was in 2 minds about running him over this mile trip or waiting for something above a mile and a quarter – and then that he would not want a lot rain, because he’s a fast-ground horse.
„He needed a setback when we were ordering him to the Prix du Jockey Club back in the spring, but is prepared for a run now.“
Zaaki has won three of the five starts with Sir Michael Stoute this year and bids to add to his tally – while Happy Electricity (Andrew Balding), Pogo (Charlie Hills) and Anna Nerium (Richard Hannon) complete the line-up.
